1st year!
Additional Info
Trail work days consist of approximately 6 hours outside. We will be spending ample time on a variety of trails, which means lots of encounters with trees, leaves, rocks, and uneven footing. The AMC will supply personal protection equipment (hard hat, gloves, eye protection, and ear protection) but feel free to bring your own.
To facilitate an enjoyable and safe day on the trail, please be sure to bring the following:
- Hiking boots (covering the ankle)
- Comfortable socks (wool advised) + 1 extra pair for contingency
- LONG PANTS
- Water (at least 2 liters)
- Layers appropriate for the day’s weather conditions **please note that weather in the White Mountains can change quickly**
- Rain gear
- Bug Spray
- Sun Protection
This camp is suitable for participants with all levels of previous trailwork experience. If you are a first timer or haven’t been around trail tools for a while, fear not! Trail work is a team effort; each person’s skills and interests can serve as assets as we work to preserve and delight in the trail system here in New Hampshire.

Description
Campers will be exposed to the world of trails, conservation, and recreation management. Led by AMC trail staff in partnership with the White Mountain National Forest, students will be provided technical trail skills training and hands-on trail stewardship opportunities on the public lands that surround and make up their community. This program will help to address critical maintenance needs on the trails and help to develop problem-solving skills, patience, teamwork, perseverance, work ethic, and more while learning about future career opportunities. This physically demanding camp runs rain or shine and a detailed gear list will be provided before camp begins. We are happy to help make sure our campers are appropriately dressed, have a day pack with the 10 essentials, rain gear, and extra layers so they are ready for full days out hiking and working on the trails we all love.
